What Ever Happened To Beanie Babies?

What Ever Happened To Beanie Babies?Do you remember 1993? If so, one of the things that might stand out to you the most is the Beanie Baby craze. People bought these bean-bagged creatures at alarming rates, hoping that one day they would bring them a small fortune. If you never got on the Beanie Baby bandwagon, don’t be worried. The craze died down, and most of the Beanies sold back then are worth very little today.

The Ones With Value

There are, however, a few Beanies that can fetch you a pretty penny. Some of these animals were made in very limited production and only for a short time before the craze really began. These are the Beanies that might be worth more than just sitting on your fireplace mantle looking cute.

  • Inky The Octopus – The original grey one without a mouth can go for $1,200
  • Peanut The Elephant – Original in royal blue color. Current price: $1,000 – $2,000
  • Mystic The Unicorn – Brown horn with a fine mane: $3,700. Brown horn with a coarse mane: $1,130. Iridescent horn: $3,000
  • Millennium Bear – Spelling errors on tags make its current price $5,000
  • Chef Robuchon Bear – Limited production makes this chef bear worth up to $7,353
  • Tie-Dyed Peace Sign Bear – Since each bear has slight color variations, you might get up to $30,000 for this one
  • Claude The Tie-Dyed Crab – Due to the errors on his tag, this guy is looking at $10,000
  • Patti The Platypus – Made with Korean tags, Patti could be worth up to $1,500
  • Humphrey The Camel – He was retired first and he’s worth about $1,200 today
  • The Princess Bear – Originally made to commemorate the death of Princess Diana, this is thought to be the most valuable Beanie on the planet. The jury is still out on that, however, but there is one selling for $507,000.

Still, others go for much less.

All of these Beanies are priced as what sellers are currently asking for them. You may or may not get a good deal if you buy one or sell one, but you never know until you try!

Searching For Treasure

If you don’t have any of these characters, you can always do a search on the ones you do have to find out if they are worth anything. If you’re in the market to buy some of these creatures, an estate sale is a good place to look. As people who hold estate sales are fairly wealthy, they might have collected Beanies when the items were hot, and not bothered to cash in on the ones that were worth anything. In fact, the North Hills estate sale in July featured an entire collection of Beanies.
