Even the best planning can face its own challenges. What often happens is that one small facet of an operation is overlooked, and then the whole process falls apart. At Heritage Estate Sales, we recently helped a client in Northridge, who thought that she had a sense of order over her big move.
The entire situation started with a simple decision to move across the country, as her husband had been hired on at a software company that was actually closer to where her daughter lived. The initial plan was simply to pack up and move the home in a very logical fashion. However, several factors happened at once to change this intent.
This client’s initial move was planned to take place over the course of three months, but within days of the husband’s job change, the daughter announced that she was pregnant. Shortly thereafter, an old friend of the client’s son-in-law put in a very generous bid on the home, but with the coda that he wanted to move his family in within a month.
As though this poor client’s plan had not been upended enough, the daughter had a slight medical scare, which ended up being just an alarm that she would have to be on bed rest through the pregnancy. At this point the client just threw her hands up and said, “That’s it. We get rid of all of it!”

This was the point where we became involved with the situation, and were able to quickly catalogue and value the contents of the home, and also arrange for the actual estate sale. Our client was able to fly to the east coast to be with her daughter, while the transactions of the home were being handled for her.
As she came back to Los Angeles for the closing on the home, she had commented how peaceful it had been to simply spend time with her loved ones and regain some composure in this chaotic time. Although she was grateful for the liquidation of equity at a point when many things seemed so uncertain, she was more pleased with feeling as though she was able to regain her sanity.
