There aren’t many accessories out there that are as beautiful to slide on your wrist as a Rolex timepiece and yet, there several cheap replicas roaming about trying to trick you into wearing them instead. Sadly, these fakes can be pretty hard to identify from the real deal, making it all the more challenging to know whether what you’re getting is genuine or just another cheap knock-off.
That’s why we are listing off the 5 things you should be looking for when Rolex shopping:
1. Check The Dial Movement
In a real Rolex, the second hand of the dial should move rather smoothly along. However, fakes are unable to match this kind of movement and will be ‘stuttering’ along. Still unsure? Listen closely for a ticking noise. If your timepiece is the real deal, there shouldn’t be any noise.
2. Check The Weight
Unlike a real Rolex, a replica will be much lighter in weight. This is because a genuine timepiece is made of only the highest quality of metals which tend to be heavier in weight. Likewise, a Rolex replica will be created with much cheaper metals that cannot compare to the weight of the real deal.
3. Check The Winder Side
Typically, in a fake Rolex timepiece, the winders to move the minute and hour hands are rather basic looking. A real Rolex, however, has finely crafted winders with engravings and grooves that are often considered a ‘great work of art’. If yours are leaning on the plain side, there is a good chance you have a fake on your hands.
4. Check The Serial Number
If your Rolex timepiece is the real deal, you should be able to see the serial and model numbers clearly marked with very fine, but solid lines that will glow at certain angles. By contrast, a replica will only show very faint dots and lines that can be challenging to see.
5. Check For The Rolex Crown
As any Rolex lover will know, there is an unmistakable Rolex crown on all of their timepieces. This crown logo always appears along with the brand name ‘Rolex’ on the face of your watch. If theses markings appear to be missing, you most likely have a fake on your hands.
