Who doesn’t love a good estate sale? There are tons of hidden treasures to explore and one-of-a kind pieces that you simply cannot find anyway else. However, to ensure that everyone has a good experience, there are certain etiquettes that must be followed.
First come, first served
This is one of the key factors of an estate sale. If you want to ensure that you don’t miss out on any of the hidden treasures, make sure to come as early as possible. You will have a place in line the moment you come to an estate sale and this will have a significant impact on the number of items you are able to see and the order in which you can place a bid. There will be no exceptions made for anyone who is late and you should never ‘skip ahead’ of anyone.
Not everything is ‘touchable’
Much like with other auctions, visitors need to be careful about what they touch during an estate sale. While some items are appropriate to touch or handle, others should be left to sight only. For certain items, you may even find experts around that may handle the item for you and discuss their genuine value.
Always respect personal space
It can be challenging to do so when tempers run high and the venue has become a bit crowded, but you need to do your best to respect everyone’s boundaries and personal space during the estate sale to avoid misunderstandings.
Do not bring your children
We know you love your kids and you may even find items that they would really enjoy, but an estate sale is meant to be an adult environment. Even if your child is especially well-behaved, it is all too easy for them to run about, bump into people and things, and be loud and disruptive during such an event. Kids are great, don’t get us wrong, but estate sales are just not a place that either of you can enjoy together.
